Rondanihan is the name given to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Filipino String Band based in Canberra, Australia. It came from the two words, “rondalla” and “bayanihan”. Rondalla (pronounced “ron-dal-yah”) refers to the native string instruments of the Philippines. Literally, it refers to a group of people making their evening rounds to play instruments and sing in front of people's houses. Bayanihan means "working together". In other words, it means “rondalyang bayanihan”. The ensemble has been in existence from late 2002.
Rondanihan Incorporated, a registered non-profit community organisation, ensures propagating, preserving, and presenting the Filipino communities’ cultural musical heritage to the Canberra and surrounding regions, and ultimately to the whole of Australia and New Zealand. Through its promotion, it will bring people together through music, making it our contribution to a culturally and linguistically responsive approach to individual uniqueness and diversity. We render our music at multicultural events, mass celebrations, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, fiestas and festivals, fund raising, and other events or functions
